Read and Download Peter Kien-hong YU book Ocean Governance, Regimes, and the South China Sea Issues in PDF, EPub, Mobi, Kindle online. Free book TOcean Governance, Regimes, and the South China Sea Issues. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 269 pages. Book excerpt: This book uses Chinese version of dialectics to present interpretations of ocean governance, international regimes, issues in the South China Sea in general and the Chinese U-shaped line in particular, through the one-dot theory. It especially serves as a tool for non-Chinese researchers and experts interested in analyzing international relations issues from a Chinese perspective. The dialectical one-dot theory, which is a superior model to the dialectical Yin and Yang or the dialectical crab and frog motion model, provides research and findings that more closely mirror reality than do other, non-dialectical approaches and research methods. Further, it can be applied to both the natural and social sciences. The book is divided into three parts — Methodology, Case Studies Related to International Regimes and Non-“International Regimes,” and Issues Related to the U-shaped Line in the South China Sea — with each chapter structured in terms of the one-dot theory. In addition to researchers and experts involved in marine and maritime affairs, this book will also appeal to all readers interested in Chinese Philosophy, International Relations, and Strategic Culture.
Read and Download John C. Avise book Molecular Ecology and Evolution in PDF, EPub, Mobi, Kindle online. Free book TMolecular Ecology and Evolution. This book was released on 2010 with total page 584 pages. Book excerpt: This volume is a reprinted collection of 69 ?classics? from the Avise laboratory, chosen to illustrate a trademark brand of research that harnesses molecular markers to scientific studies of natural history and evolution in the wild. Spanning the early 1970s through the late 2000s, these articles trace how the author and his colleagues have used molecular genetics techniques to address multifarious conceptual topics in genetics, ecology, and evolution, in a fascinating menagerie of creatures with oft-peculiar lifestyles. The organisms described in this volume range from blind cavefish to male-pregnant pipefishes and sea spiders, from clonal armadillos to natal-homing marine turtles, from hermaphroditic sea snails to hybridizing monkeys and tree frogs, from clonal marine sponges to pseudohermaphroditic mollusks to introgressing oysters, and from endangered pocket gophers, terrapins, and sparrows to unisexual (all-female) fish species to ?living-fossil? horseshoe crabs, and even to a strange little fish that routinely mates with itself. The conceptual and molecular topics addressed in this volume are also universal, ranging from punctuated equilibrium to coalescent theory to the need for greater standardization in taxonomy, from cytonuclear disequilibrium statistics to the ideas of speciation duration and sympatric speciation, from historical population demography to phylogenetic reconstructions of males' sexual ornaments, from the population genetic consequences of inbreeding to Pleistocene effects on phylogeography, and from the molecular underpinnings of null alleles to the notion of clustered mutations that arise in groups to compelling empirical evidence for the unanticipated processes of gene conversion and concerted evolution in animal mitochondrial DNA. Overall, this collection includes many of the best, most influential, sometimes controversial, occasionally provocative, always intriguing, or otherwise entertaining publications to have emerged from the Avise laboratory over the last four decades. Thus, this book conveys, through the eyes of one of the field's longstanding pioneers, what ?the organismal side? of molecular ecology and evolution really means.
Read and Download Eric S. Mallin book Reading Shakespeare in the Movies in PDF, EPub, Mobi, Kindle online. Free book TReading Shakespeare in the Movies. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 254 pages. Book excerpt: Reading Shakespeare in the Movies: Non-Adaptations and Their Meaning analyzes the unacknowledged, covert presence of Shakespearean themes, structures, characters, and symbolism in selected films. Writers and directors who forge an unconscious, unintentional connection to Shakespeare’s work create non-adaptations, cinema that is unexpectedly similar to certain Shakespeare plays while remaining independent as art. These films can illuminate core semantic issues in those plays in ways that direct adaptations cannot. Eric S. Mallin explores how Shakespeare illuminates these movies, analyzing the ways that The Godfather, Memento, Titanic, Birdman, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre take on new life in dialogue with the famous playwright. In addition to challenging our ideas about adaptation, Mallin works to inspire new awareness of the meanings of Shakespearean stories in the contemporary world.

Read and Download Josef Tropper book Classical Ethiopic in PDF, EPub, Mobi, Kindle online. Free book TClassical Ethiopic. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 376 pages. Book excerpt: Upon its publication in 2002, Josef Tropper’s Altäthiopisch: Grammatik des Gəˁəz mit Übungstexten und Glossar was quickly recognized as the best modern grammar of Classical Ethiopic in any language. Now Eisenbrauns makes Tropper’s grammar available for the first time in English, in this revised and expanded edition by Josef Tropper and Rebecca Hasselbach-Andee. Gəˁəz literature is diverse and of major importance for the study of early Christianity, Judaism, and the history of eastern Africa. The language of this rich literature, however, has been difficult to access until now. Designed to help language learners acquire competency with the script from the start, Classical Ethiopic provides a comprehensive treatment of Gəˁəz grammar, with detailed chapters on the language’s writing system, phonology, morphology, morphosyntax, and syntax. Numerous example sentences illustrate the grammatical concepts discussed, and each example is presented in Ethiopic script, transliteration, and English translation. The grammar concludes with an appendix presenting sample texts to be used as exercises, an English-Gəˁəz glossary, and an updated bibliography that takes into account the developments that have occurred in the study of Gəˁəz in the nearly two decades since Tropper’s original publication. Appropriate for the classroom and for independent study, Classical Ethiopic is sure to become the standard reference in English for the study of the language.
Read and Download Mark Keiter book A New Geological Map of the Island of Syros (Aegean Sea, Greece) in PDF, EPub, Mobi, Kindle online. Free book TA New Geological Map of the Island of Syros (Aegean Sea, Greece). This book was released on 2011 with total page 43 pages. Book excerpt: The Island of Syros (Cyclades, Greece) is a prime locality for the study of processes active in deep levels of orogens and is world famous for its exceptionally well preserved blueschist- to eclogite-facies lithologies. Syros Island was completely remapped at a scale of 1:25,000. Detailed lithostratigraphical observations and area-wide, closely spaced structural measurements allowed a much more detailed depiction of the highly variable lithological assemblage, as well as of the complex structural evolution. Lithostratigraphical indications, such as the distribution of Mn-mineralization and sequential repetition of characteristic marker successions, suggest that the whole-rock pile of the Cycladic Blueschist Unit on Syros, including meta-ophiolites and metasediments, retains numerous primary depositional features. Magmatic activity in an Upper Cretaceous backarc environment was likely to be contemporaneous with the deposition of the sedimentary protoliths comprising the main lithological succession on Syros. The structural evolution of the Cycladic Blueschist Unit on Syros comprises multiphase isoclinal intrafolial folding and ductile thrusting, regarded as essentially burial related and terminating close to peak metamorphic conditions, either prograde or very early on the retrograde path. Especially in areas where blueschist- to eclogite-facies metamorphism is undisturbed, high-pressure fabrics are well preserved. The retrograde evolution was accompanied by heterogeneously distributed, weakly developed extensional tectonics and episodical, contractional deformation, followed by intense brittle transpressional and transtensional tectonics, disrupting the rock sequence since Miocene to subrecent times.
